Viral Imaginations: COVID-19 Workshops Summer 2021

These events will provide participants with a chance to explore the Viral Imaginations: COVID-19 gallery, engage in their own imaginative contemplation, and have fun in the process. Open to adults, these Zoom events focus on ekphrastic art: the creative reflection on an artwork through another artistic medium. With Mental Health Awareness Month ending and Health Awareness Month beginning, Viral Imaginations: COVID-19 offers Pennsylvanians an opportunity to creatively check-in with themselves and others during online Ekphrastic Expression Workshops on July 14, 2021, and August 18, 2021, from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

“As we begin to take steps toward returning to ‘normal’ with the rollout of vaccines and the loosening of restrictions, this phase of the pandemic is also stressful because we must come to grips with the fallout of the pandemic and process our experiences of the past year-plus,” said Michele Mekel, assistant director of Penn State’s Bioethics Program and co-principal investigator of Viral Imaginations: COVID-19. “These events are designed to give people a chance to take a breath and consider recent experiences by artistically reflecting and coming together in creative community.”
